Theta is the second deepest state ranging from 4 ? 7 hertz. Theta is associated with your mind and activates when you are trying to solve information. Delta is the deepest and slowest brain wave state measuring less than 4 hertz. Delta is deeply associated with the spirit and allows you to experience yourself and your environment as a witness with no judgement or attachment. Beta is the state you are in when you are at work and doing your job. Your boss comes in and tells you that the report that needed to be done by next week is now due by tomorrow. Your body goes into an instant shock that lasts only a fraction of a second; you take a deep breath in.
Your brain slows down into the alpha state, as you feel confusion and panic set in. You express yourself in an emotional state, not wanting to accept the changes. Unfortunately that is the way business goes, you finally surrender to the new deadline.
Not knowing what to do next you sink into your chair with your head back. Another deep breath with a sigh puts your body and mind into an even deeper state. ÒHow am I going to accomplish this?Ó Your questions are evidence of the links from your emotional surrender to your mental surrender as your brains crosses over from Alpha to Theta. Your mind starts processing how to accomplish your task, ÒIf I stop this project and get some help, I will probably have to skip coffee break, but it should be just enough time to get the report doneÓ. Accessing the Theta state allowed you to become creative and solve the information needed to fulfill your task.
Having found a way to solve the dilemma, you emit a sigh of relief, triggering you into your delta state. You rest for a moment as the energy clears and you feel the inner peace and satisfaction flow through you. You take a moment to overview the last few hectic minutes and take pride in your accomplishment.
You flash a big smile followed by a deep breath in to activate the body once again. Beta kicks in hard now that all of your ducks are in a row and your plan is set forth. You are back in the moment thriving at another day of work. Your transformation through the 4 brain wave states is now complete and you are functioning within beta once again.
This example highlights your ability to flow in and out of these 4 brain wave states continually throughout your day.
